Unspecified Potential Security Risk!

Oh, my. Two weeks in a row with ambiguous security-related messages from a web browser.

This week, we have the following:

Internet Explorer

This page has an unspecified potential security risk.
Would you like to continue?

If it wasn't for the fact that I wasn't browsing the web - I was trying to open a ZIP file on a network share - I probably would have said "No". But since I really needed to get into the ZIP file, I decided to take my unspecified potential chances. I think I'm OK.

You can fix this by going to Internet Options/Security, click on Local Intranet and then click the Sites button. It will pop up a window that says "Automatically Detect Intranet" and you just turn it off. Then suddenly, MS's magically craptastic code stops guessing at whether a share is local or external, and it stops hassling you about it. Ran into that today myself...

Yeah - I know how to turn it off. I was more or less commenting on the helpful message ;). I set all of my Security Zones to be much more restrictive than the defaults for each zone, so your suggestion won't work for me. The specific setting for the applicable security zone that affects this behavior is "Launching applications and unsafe files" - I had mine set to "Prompt", which produces the described dialog. Changing the setting to "Enable" of course eliminates the dialog, while changing the setting to "Disable" produces a "Security Alert" dialog stating that "Your current security settings do not allow this action."
